Today is the last 1 hour lesson we have been given to finish editing the film opening. Nahim and Shaidul are watching the scene very carefully and spotting out areas that need to be corrected. By extending the time line we could watch each frame individually and this helped us spot flaws in the filming which we wouldn't be able to see if we watched the scene as a whole.
After this is completed our coursework will be finished. A lot of time and work has gone into producing this along with overcoming many problems and difficulties. However we are confident that we will be done in time and have produced something both the group and our teacher is happy with.

Editing Process

We have started editing our opening scene. Nahim is the strongest at editing and therefor has taken a leading role in this part of the coursework. We uploaded the footage from the camera to the laptop and then we chose the clips we wanted to use and the ones that didn't work so well we deleted. When we were filming we repeated nearly all the scenes more than twice to ensure when we did upload there would be one clip of each scene we are happy with and so that we wouldn't have to go back and re-shoot anything again. After we chose the correct scenes and put them in order we had to crop some of the parts which we didn't need. The programme we are using is called iMovie HD, this software has built in sounds and effects which we can use in our opening scene, but some of the required sounds were not already built in so we downloaded them from www.partnersinrhyme.com. We are still currently editing our opening scene and tommorrow is our final lesson in which we have 2 hours to complete it.

CHANGES TO OUR FILM OPENING

Due to sudden unexpected changes we have now had to completely change our story board and film else where. The classrooms we wanted to use to film our opening scenes were suddenly unavailable so we decided that we should film somewhere outside where the same problem can't occur.
This has put a lot of pressure and built up the work load in our group but we know if we work hard we can still produce and opening scene the 3 of us are proud of. We have decided to obviously stick to the same genre and age ratings, all we have done is scrapped our previous story board and created a new one. Even though this will take time we know after we get it done the filming process will be easier than the last stroy board and we can still use the ideas and shots that we wanted.
Tommorrow we will start and hopefully finish filming our opening scene, this has also affected our cast list which will also be drawn up again. The time we spent filming for the other story board was crucial but we aren't looking at it as if we wasted time but instead we have learnt how to do different camera shots and gained a lot of practice which will be very useful tommorrow.
On friday we want to edit the scene and finish it off, we know we have very limited time but we also know that if we work efficiently it can be completed.

'First Shoot'

We done our first video shoot and this occured on Friday 22nd of February 2010 at 4 O'clock. We did have a few problems such as majority people from the crew list did not attend which made it very difficult for us. Furthermore no classrooms were empty in order for us to record. However this problem was solved as we went to the main block of Sir John Cass Secondary School. At last we found an english classroom on the first floor were we could finally do it.

Later on when the video shoot was over, Nahim and Shaidul were randomly checking out other classrooms and suddenly they found one which looked freaky during when it gets dark. They came to a conclusion to shoot the video in that class instead as it will build more suspense and release the genre horror. So by this we have decided to shoot on wednesday again in that classroom which we have chosen and hopefully finish it so Nahim can start editing it!!!!

Tommorow Plans for Media lesson

Our plans for tommorow lesson is to go out and do the tracking shot with the camera. We need to find ideas in order to do the difficult shots. In addition we are going to shoot some of the scenes so it gives us more time to finish it quickly and edit it professionally.

Killuminati Productions - Camera Practice Shots

Killuminati productions have not started the film yet due to a lot of problems. So far we have just gone out and practiced with the camera doing a variety of shots. From today we are attempting to start the film. however we need to wait till it gets dark so we can shoot it and wait for each actors to show up that are listed in our crew list. Hopefully everything will be done by the end of this week and we should start our editing soon.

Filming

We have started to shoot our opening scene and are in the middle of completing all the required shots before we start editing them. We wanted to have a still shot of our college for the start of the scene and we acomplished that on friday the 15.01.2010. This week we intend to finish all the other shots, we have given our cast a schedule of which they will look at and know when they will be acting for us and we have obtained all the required equipent to finish filming the rest of the scene.
It was difficult for us to find a full cast which are all available at the same time and are willing to take part but we managed to. We have delegated roles to each cast member so they know exactly what they're required to do and between ourselves we are clear on which one of us is taking on which tasks.

Character Representation

We watched the opening scene of the film The Ring and analyzed how the main character is represented:

The main character in the opening scene is a young white pretty female with blond hair. She is wearing her school uniform and by this we can tell her age (teenager).
Her characteristics are the usual fit of a teenager, very gossipy, giggly and playful but she also gets scared very easily.

From this it's clear that young white girls are being represented as weak, vulnerable and slightly stupid.

Today in our media lesson we planned our coursework in depth. We done a brief plan of our ideas such as locations, characters etc.

Today Tajmina took the role of commenting on other peoples blogs and doing paper work such as schedules and the crew list.

Shaidul helped Nahim with the planning of our coursework such as with timing and characters.

Nahim uploaded the voting station and the synopsis video. in addition he helped out with the paper work.

This is Killuminati productions synopsis highlighting our ideas for our main coursework. There are two ideas in which we developed and we are going to choose one of them. As a group we loved to do choose idea 2 for our coursework however it will be very time consuming. We got only 2 minutes for our opening scene. The first idea we'll be very suitable with in the time limit. Although idea 2 is a better idea we chose idea 1 so it can fit in.

Our film is going to be rated 15+

We chose this because our genre is Horror/Thriller and its going to contain scenes which are going to be unsuitable for children to watch. It will also contain violent actions and blood.
Also we want the film to be aimed at people of our own age group, we feel that because Most people our age are into these types of film and they like a bit of excitement, But if the film contained some sexual scenes and very strong language then our film would've been rated 18. So it's best suited for people over 15.

The killer in our video will be similar to the killer above in the picture. We chose this specific character because he's dress sense is really horrific. Furthermore hes role in his films reveal the genre of horror by including violent scenes and murder. This character will be perfect for our genre which is horror.

We will have a girl as the main character in our film. We chose a female character to be the victim because most horror movies have female characters as the victim. Her dress colour is white which is symbolic because since that colour symbolises purity, it shows that she is going to be an easy target.

Group Preliminary Evaluation: Makavelli

The preliminary exercise was to film and edit a character opening a door, crossing the room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom he/she engages in a couple of lines of dialogue.

The main strengths of our production was up we were satisfied s that we were prepared and organized. In addition we were all comfortable with our roles . Editing was easy but it look a bit of time but at the end we all managed to get it finished. As a group we were satisfied with the final edit of the task. As all of us took each turns in different roles and we communicated well.

The only weakness we had was the camera work and framing. There were one scene where it didnt make sense for e.g Nishad's head is above the camera level, second scene Nishad's head is elow the camera level.

Next time we will be careful of the camera works and framing. So it will make sense and look more professional. we will think about camera movements and zooming.

The role of Directing was played by Shaidul, the role of editing was played by Nahim and the producer was Tajmina.

Genre Research; Scream- Interval

This final part of the opening scene shows how effectively the director ends the opening scene. In this clip the murderer kills the girl and hangs her on a tree while her father is trying to find her, her mother listens to her scream in pain over the phone. The scene ends by the parents going outside the house to find their dead daughter hanging from a tree dead.
A lot of suspense is created, as when the victims parents enter the house it's all messed up, the fire alarm is sounding whilst they are rushing around immensely trying fix things and find their daughter; this adds to the 'suspense' factor as everything is very rushed in the house & then when it shows the killer & victim, although something very wrong is happening it's slow and calm. This also indicates that the killer is very comfortable and used to what he just did.

The girl is alone in the house and she is getting ready to watch a scary movie this can be decoded by the audience as the girl will get frightened. She also keeps on getting mysterious calls the audience will also decode this as something bad is going to happen to the girl.
By watching this it is clear that most victims in horror/thriller films are women. As You can see through the study of semiotics the director used a girl alone in the house which makes the girl look vulnerable.

The Genre we have chosen for our coursework is Horror/Thriller. We have been watching a variety of different opening scenes from horror and thriller films and know what type of things we need to include when we film our coursework, these include; Dark skies, Bad weather, Preferably a female character alone and vulnerable, Suburban area and have suspense created right from the start. We chose this genre because we all enjoy watching both horror and thriller films and we agreed it would be the most enjoyable out of all the different types of genres for us to plan and film.
